Thought you might be interested to know that when I finally got the clean
install from the DVD to work (even with the upgrade version), it correctly
created a dual-boot to my existing Windows XP installation.

Thanks for reporting back. I had done a clean install to another partition
from the qualifying OS the last time I did an upgrade. As I said, I don't
remember whether the qualifying OS was still usable.

Regardless of whether you still have a dual boot or not, you are using an
unlicensed product as your XP license was subsumed by the Vista upgrade
license regardless of how you installed it.
