I have tried line 11 of Kelly's reg tweaks and double
checked they went in and they did, but these yellow menu
pop-ups still come up on my toolbars, quick launch and
taskbar...I just recently did a clean instal and tried
again and to no avail. The tweak for the startbutton
didn't work either...I am the admin, my comp saves my
settings and I am out of ideas...Please help Thanks in
advance

Hi.........
tootips in the "launch bar" (area next to start menu) can
be removed by right-click the icon and select properties.
then remove/change text in "comment" box.

All of the comments had already been removed...Here's my
problem...eg; I make a new toolbar for my desktop, with a
link to a website...the yellow box pops up with the
url...It will not go away...comments are removed, files
renamed, and if I try to remove a name for files it will
not let me remove it completely, so all I can do is alter
the name, but the urls still stay and the name of the
page remains

Thanks

frank......if you are still looking at this.....
found this on the help/support newsgroup
-------------------------
What you are complaining about are called Baloon Tops and
they ARE a real
pain.
Here's how to get rid of them.
Copy the following three lines to Notepad or some
editor. Word is ok:
===============================================

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\Advanc
ed]

"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

================================================
Now save that file as "DiableBaloonTips.reg"
Double-click the saved file to execute.
Reboot.

This makes a change to your registry to tell XP not to
use them. You may
want to be very safe and do an export of your entire
registry with RegEdit
prior to doing anything that makes changes.

HOW TO:
Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP
============================================

F

Frank

First off, THANK YOU ALL for everything...I have already
done all of the DWORD values, including infotip,
ballontips, startbutton, etc etc and they only work for
my desktop and folders, but not for my desktop when it is
put into a tool bar or an url in a toolbar...It has to be
some weird thing BURRIED in the reg.

Thanks again, I am going to search Google now

Happy Thanksgiving

Frank;
If it'll make you feel any better, you aren't alone. I did a clean install,
have all the known Registry settings set to NOT show the !@#$!#$ Balloon Tips.
I did a Repair Install and rechecked the settings. I've still got the damn
things. None of my Balloon Tips have ever been disabled since I first installed
XP Home in August.
My favorite is for the Start button, "Click here to begin." No kidding!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!!

how about this trick to change color from yellow to white
and change font to real small.

W

Wesley VogelX

neat trick....change font size to very small size.
of course the day/date changes with size.
display > appearancetab > advanced button > item=tooltips.
be sure and save as 'theme' in theme tab box.

Item:
ToolTip
Color1: White
Font: Small Fonts
Size: 2
Color: White
Of course, I did like the day/date balloon feature. Oh well.

GREAT IDEA...Only problem is, the smallest it will allow
me to do is 6 on the font size...anyway to tweak that to
allow smaller? Any really small or non-existent fonts to
try to use? Or how about a color setting for red, blue
and green that would make it transparent??

Once again
Thanks

Frank;
Change the font from Tahoma to Small Fonts Size: 2 Color1: White Color:
White
You can't even see the font with white font on white background.

F

Frank

As always, THANK YOU...
I had it set for Tahoma and typed in 1 in the font size,
maybe I am crazy but I swear it took the "1" even though
it says "6" when I go back...I never even noticed
the "small font size" font and to think EVERYTHING on my
XP has been modified as far as fonts and what not and I
never saw it.

Well again, thank you...I just think that there has to be
something in the reg. to disable these stupid ***,
******* boxes...
Still, it's better than it was

Expand the taskbar on the bottom so it comes up higher
and then it will show the full date/time...
point at the taskbar towards the top of it till you get a
double arrow, then click and pull it up a notch...That
should work
