The latest BETA version of this program from Donald Lessau now browses
a LAN in Win98. He spent some time working with me and building test
programs and eventually was able to solve all the problems. I now
recommend this program to all.

Talking about the BETA version: XYplorer now supports icon overlays (as for
example used by TortoiseSVN, a Subversion client, implemented as a Windows
shell extension). Not many file managers can do this trick, let alone those
offering a free home license. (Of course, TortoiseSVN is almost exclusively
used in professional contexts, so the home license does not really apply
here anyway.)

Don
