I don't want to hit you without warning, so:

From 21-March-2006 XYplorer will be distributed under a new license
policy. The days of "Free For Non-Commercial Use" are over.
Unless you register and unlock the trial version, there will be a
fair amount of good old nagging/crippling.
Also registration cost will rise to €29.95 ($36) per copy.

Seems that register and registration is used to mean two diffrent
things on the website. One is to register for the forums and the
other is to register the product. After that I get lost.

Does this mean I can register before the 21st March and then use
XYplorer for free or that I still have to pay €24.95 befor 21st
March?

It's not that difficult. Forum members are folks that have registered to the
forum. So "(Only for those forum members who have not yet registered)" would
be an oxymoron if "registered" referred to forum registration. So it must
refer to product registration.

XYplorer versions till 20-March-2006: free for non-commercial use, else
€24.95 ($30)
XYplorer versions from 21-March-2006 onwards: shareware €29.95 ($36), else
nag/crip

Now, since XYplorer licenses are lifetime licenses, you can save 6 bucks if
you buy now.

Alternatively, you can have XPlorer2 for Euro 19.95, a much more developed
file manager.
http://www.zabkat.com/ and no, I don't have any connection with the
developer.

Can we stop pushing this non-freeware program, it's getting annoying that so
many people here feel the need to keep this alive.
The guy burned you by using your feedback and experiences with the program
while under development then kicked your butt outta here by charging for it.
It's not that great a program that it's worth that kind of money but it's
not FREEWARE and should be dropped from discussion here.
Just my 1.5 cents

Disagree on many fronts. As I understand, it wasn't Donald's game plan
to string people along beta testing and then sting them with this $ware
move - it was a recent decision. Yes, of course many software authors
cynically do what you described, but not in this case.

I do feel it is a great program - any program can really only be
evaluated by using it continually for a period of time, as I have with
this. That's the only real way of getting a feel for it. There are
features in the XYplorer Configuration that are just beautiful eg. Color
Filters.

There is a "Last Free-for-non-commercial-use Version" currently
available at:
http://www.xyplorer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611

That is FREEWARE and thus is eligible for discussion here. At this point
it is so fully featured I can't imagine what could possibly be added!

My couple of euro cents.

What are you talking about? He didn't burn anyone, if you had a working
copy yesterday you still have it today and life is good...

He didn't burn anyone. People got a free program for years and a great
deal of help from Donald. The freeware version still works. Added to
that he had the courtesy to advise us of the change of status ahead
of time. He deserves praise not condemnation.

Regards, John.

I've always been against the program...but only because the author made a
post in which he dissed laptop users. It wasn't *inordinately* rude, but
to write off a whole set of users who are growing in numbers seemed really
shortsighted to me.

That said, the author has developed a good rapport with the group. So
while I have a negative bias towards the program, and think other FMs are
superior anyway, I won't buy that the author was using the group for
nefarious purposes. So I guess that's a backhanded compliment. ;)

I'm not contesting your right to talk about XYplorer last *free* version
in here. But, *free for non commercial use* is NOT the same thing as
*freeware*.

Freeware is not a synonym of free/gratis.

OK bud let's form a posse. Quick before that savage gets too far.

<cue: dramatic music>

I'll take the Sony Viao with the new 1000 Yard Equalizer feature.

You take the Toshiba Qosmio with the tried and tested Leveller
Blast feature.

We gotta stop this sorta thing.

<hold shot until turns on heel and hurries off>
<kill music>
<fade in to villain dissing more laptop users>

If you use Xplorer2 Lite and don't mind switching to Agent Ransack
for Finds (because Xplorer2 Lite has got Find disabled) then it seems
you might start to get a bit closer to a freeware altenative to
either Xplorer2 Pro or chargeable XYplorer.

Yep, I thought so. ;)

Just about everyone I know uses a laptop as their *primary* computer, so
for an author, to in effect, say the needs of laptop users don't count is
both shortsighted and lousy PR for his product. JMO.

Damn it, yes! Bloody me, I wished I would remember what exactly I have said
that rightly upset all friends of the laptop and keeps on doing so. How can
I explain it to the many XYplorer users who actually use a laptop? Si
tacuisses...
