Xtreme Slow Print to Lexmark X73 via XP

Recently upgraded from Win98 to WinXP Pro on Dell
Precision 410 Workstation. Installed X73 driver for WinXP
downloaded from Lexmark site. After several tries finally
got a clean install. Test print of doc was prompt.

24 hours later ... 500 kb doc sent to print takes over an
hour to print, and Lexmark Print Control UI hangs up. No
interim configuration or software changes.

Any ideas what gives?
