After changing my main home LAN server from XPProsp1 to XPProsp2, on my
clients side, when I go to 'My Network Places/entire network/M.W.N/(my
workgroup)/(my server)":
1. Like normal my Win2KPro clients pop up the "Connect as dialog", I enter
my name & password, and everything works great.
2. On my other WinXPsp1(not pro) boxes, somehow they now skip the "Connect
as dialog", go straight into the server's printer/scheduled tasks/shared
folders listing. (bad) Then when I click on a shared folder, 5-10 seconds
pass, then I get an error "....Inaccessible....You may not have
permission.....".
Before I installed sp2 on my main server, my other WinXPsp1 boxes worked
correctly just like my Win2K boxes still do.
After checking the "event viewer/system" on my XPProsp2 server box, I
noticed that when a XPsp1 box attempt access, they create the following
warning:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
MrxSmb -> The redirector failed to determine the connection type.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Win2KPro boxes don't create any warnings, they just work fine...
What's going on, how can I get my untouched XPsp1 boxes to generate the
"connect as dialog" & allow the file shares to work just like they did
yesterday, like the way my Win2KPro boxes still work today?
Additional: On the XPsp1 boxes, no warning, or, error events were logged.
