XPS Files

How popular is the use of XPS files created with the XPS printer driver built
into XP? Normally I save things with Adobe Acrobat, but I don't know it on a new
computer, and with its price out the roof, I may decide to go another way.
(There are some free PDF printer drivers and converters as well as an Acrobat
substitute - NitroPDF - but this question is about XPS files. What is the
likelihood that Microsoft will one day abandon the format and leave me with a
bunch of files that I cannot open?

I don't really see the XPS format as a competitor to the PDF format.
Nobody knows what the future brings - but I never seen the XPS format in
use at any of the costumers that I have been with.

IMO They need to implement 3d capabilities into it.
Such as AutoDESK's DWF format.

When that happens then it will be a force (over PDF) to be reckoned with.

As it stands it's still a good, lightweight 2d document viewer.

Everything appears to be going XML (which is what XPS is based on) these
days.
