XP's file sorting

I expected that XP would sort files in folders in the
same numerical order as Win 98. This is not the case.
It's very annoying to try to re-sort a series that goes
in this order:
0001.jpg
1.jpg
0010.jpg
002.jpg
2.jpg
002a.jpg
and so on. It's just a jumbled mess! How do I change it
so that it's orderly? Thanls for any help you can provide.

If you MUST use numeric filenames, avoid using leading Zeroes. It's as
simple and basic as that.
A computer is a "number-cruncher", and "sort" will apply normal math rules.
"1" and "0001" are mathematically and numerically the same. The significant
(i.e."sort") digit is either >"0" or the first digit after "0".
