XPE SP2 update problem

Timu CHEN

I downloaded the real version of XPE SP2 (abour 270MB) and tried to install
it.
After the download was finished up, the installation started automatically
itself.
The "Database Engine Update" and "Tools Update" worked just fine.
However, "Database Update" did not finish up as I wish.
At the end of the work, it told me a certain folder in the repository is not
found or is not accessible.
I have saved the log file as below.
I have also checked my repository, and found that this specific folder did
not exist.
No wonder the installation failed.
Why is the installer expecting a folder that does not exist?
Is there any other thing that I need to do before I update the databse?

Thanks for the help.

Dear KM,

Just a short question.

I have never had to download these files. With XPE SP1, everything on the
disk works just fine.

My local Microsoft asked me to download SP2 myself as they do not have CD to
give away. My XPE platform builder is a standard version, not evaluation
version. However, the link below took me to a download site for XPE
evaluation version.

Can I use these files in my standard platform builder?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Timu

Timu,
Can I use these files in my standard platform builder?

No, you cannot. I mean I would not recommend you to do that unless you backup your XPe SP1 installation and not afraid of
experimenting.

SP2 is an update to SP1. So the tools were not changed (except some minor changes in INF importer) so you won't get "Eval" there (in
TD).
However, there is also database. But SP2 is rather a few SLDs and thier repositories so it should not change your Full version of
DB.

This is all to say that you can give it a try (but backup db and repository first!).

Or download the Full SP2 from microsoft.embeddedoem.com.

I had a similar problem installing some updates. Don't know if it is the right
thing to do or not, but what I found was that the 'repositories' share only had
read permission for everyone; I added my user account with full control to the
share and then it worked fine.

Dear Larry,

I did not do that.
My local Microsoft consultant recommended me to re-install the database,
leaving the database engine and the tool untouched.
My platform builder comes with SP1, and therefore I remove the database,
re-install it again, and apply SP2 thereafter.

It works.
