XPe Product Activation

K

Kris Kumler

I got some information on the product activation system at
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/mpafaq.asp

Does XPe work exactly the same way? Are "7 points" needed total to
continue functioning or is there a different threshold?
I ask this so I can determine what physical components may be replaced
in a running machine after it is deployed.

Also, what issues and workarounds would be possible for copying from
an old hard drive to a new one and using in the same system? e.g.
Could we replace a failing hard drive with a new one of the same or
different make and not have XPe fail?

Thanks

Kris,

Product activation doesn't apply to XP Embedded even though some of the
documentation eludes to this. All you need is the tools to build the runtime
image, and a valid PID obtained from a distributor. You can use one PID from
the set of stickers you receive as the "master" ID, then affix the
appropriate stickers to the rest of your devices.

You need the PID to make the image active for XPE. This is the runtime
license. You would put the PID number under setting of .slx file in the
target designer. click on the runtime image licensing
