XPe differences with XP Pro

Hi

Following my previous post on this group, but on a more general
subject...

One of our customers wants to use a product of ours with XPe.
The product works perfectly on his devices when using XP Pro but there
are problems with XPe on the same device.

We encounter problems on the device when using his XPe installation (one
of our filter drivers cannot AddDevice correctly, IOGetDeviceProperty on
the Add'ed Devices returns "No Such device"...).

Then I would like to know what to check and the differences between XPe
and XP Pro. I suspect that the problems come from a XPe specific
component that is not available under XP Pro. Apart from EWF, what other
XPe components are specific to this OS ?

Any hint, any lead would be appreciated

TIA

Hi,

EWF, DUA, ...., although in your case EWF is probably cause since your driver do not add itself nicely in chain.
Missing system file change protection. So updates trough some installers can downgrade dll files.
Whether EWF is disabled or enabled it will hook itself for all partitions and then do nothing if disabled. (Read my previous post
how to remove it completely from starting)

Basically in theory XPe can contain more features that XP Prof since it have same and more binaries but registry settings are
different story.

If someone made this XPe image other then yourself it is impossible to tell what they included in it since XPe image can be from 5Mb
up to full XP Prof size and functionality.

You will have to ask XPe developers who made this system or to play by yourself and find out.

Best regards,
Slobodan

You also can check FBALog.txt and SetupApi.log files to see if any related errors appear there when installing XPe image.
