Hi

My new XP2600+ is running at around 53 `c is this ok?
I've got a coolermaster Aero7 lite heatsink/fan fitted to it.
Would it help it if I used somemore heatsink compound rather than just what
came on the heatsink?

The temp is at the high end of normal. Try go get it down. You might have
too much thermal compound. It needs to be a VERY thin layer. It is just to
fill in the gaps between the heatsink and the processor. If you used all
that came with the heatsink, you used way too much.

That's better than three different retail AMD HSF's have done for me.
They all ran near 60C. The Volcano 11+($30) never lets my 2500+ @
3200+ go over 44C. With the grill removed the noise level was cut in
half. Never put your fingers in the case with the power on if you do
the same.

Mine runs hot too, about 50C. Sounds normal too me, but what do i know. I
would not worry until it gets over 70C.
Good Luck

For another temp comparison. I have a 2600+ with the Volcano 9 with Arctic
Silver 3 between the two. And it runs between 41C at idle and 46C under a
load.
