XP2 Firewall error 10047

I have had XP2 running for a while, but today the system has informed me that
the firewall is down.
Going to services and attempting to restart the firewall, I get a 10047
error, with the message:
An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.

How can I clear this error to get the firewall restarted?

Sent an e-mail to Microsoft last night and got a working solution this
morning. Here it is:

Step 1: Winsock reset
================
1. Go to the command prompt and then type the command "Netsh winsock reset"

Got a message saying that to complete the reset Restart your computer
restart the computer and then reinstall tcpip

Step 2: Reinstall TCP/IP
==================
1. Go to Folder options and to tab named view
2. Choose the options to show hidden files and folders
3. Apply the settings and the open the network connection window
4. Right click on the network connection and then try to install TCP/IP from
there
