XP2 desktop windows snap back into full view, cannot park half offscreen

Greetings m.p.w.g

My quite freshly installed XP2 system has suddenly developed an
irritating problem (which I suspect is due to the .net framework update
thingie).

Previously, I could have various windows open and I could park them
mostly off-screen to make room for other things. (I could minimise but
prefer to push them around.
I installed almost all XP2 updates without affecting this arrangement,
but since I went to install the .net framework, any window that I push
partly off-screen will jump back into full view. Most annoying.

I would love to put things back as they were, but have not yet tracked
down the cure, either within Windows or device driver (Biostar TA690G +
Samsung T200 monitor) settings, or on the Interweb.

Can anyone suggest a cure please, before I throw the monitor out of the
window?

Cheers

I suggest that you update to SP3, and then install all the updates since
then, including updates to the .net framework "thingie".

Mmmm ... maybe.
Is it possible to update to Sp3 while keeping IE7, or is IE8 included
within Sp3 whether I want it or not?

IE8 is not included in any other update. It is stand-alone.

Yes, you can update to SP3 while keeping IE7; but it would probably be
better to uninstall IE7 before installing SP3, then reinstall IE7.

Thanks. Good news. (I've nothing against IE8 and have read some good
things about it, but not quite enough to prompt me to move.)

OK. (I actually installed Sp3 before I read your advice, but will keep
it in mind.)

After installation of Sp3 and updates the problem is still here, and I
am moved to suspect it may be some obscure monitor driver interaction
that decided what's best.
I think I should check out some appropriate hardware newsgroups and
perhaps post there after the usual period of lurking.
What I shall also do is re-install XP here (it does not take long), and
create a path of restore points as I go - this should narrow things down
considerably if the problem recurs.

Thanks both of you for your interest - this is a very helpful and
informative newsgroup.

What are the video card drivers you are using? I do recall that the
ATi Catalyst Control Centre (ATi video card drivers required) are
reported to require the latest .NET ipdates (I do not recall which
version of the .Net as each level is independant -- 1.0, 1.1, 2.0,
3.x.) It seems the C.C.C. does "funky" operations.

Aha!
This Biostar TA690G uses onboard ATI Radeon X1250 graphics, with CCC.
I have already looked through the various settings on offer there and
shall have another look.
(pause ...)
No - nothing I can identify immediately, but there is a huge Help
section which I shall plough through. (If it is there it will be in a
little corner with an utterly un-intuitive title, I've no doubt.)
The pain is that things worked as I wanted only before I installed the
latest blasted 3.x .net offerings.
