xp workgroup problem

Anita

I have set up a peer to peer network with a workgroup that
has 1 win98 machine, 1 win2000 machine and 3 winxp
machines. One of the winxp machines is giving me an error
when I try to see the other computers in the workgroup.
You may not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you
have access permissions. The other XP machines see the
workgroup fine and the machine that doesn't has access to
the internet through the network. I have made the machine
part of the workgroup.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you run the XP Network Setup Wizard on all machines. Did you make sure
all firewalls were turned off on all machines before running the wizard.
During the Wizard, there is a question asking how this machine connects to
the Internet. An incorrect answer to this question can cause the symptom
you describe. Many networked users use the "Hub" response but usually the
correct response is "Gateway."

If that doesn't resolve it, please go to the following link, scroll to
network_web, select it and post your question there:

Hi Anita,

Also, try this:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
