xp wont restart

I just installed xp professional and when i try and
reboot the system shuts down and then just sits there
without rebooting. I have to shut of the power and
restart manualy. any help would be appreciated.
 
Does it do it in safe mode? What all is installed on the machine currently?
Have you installed the latest BIOS and updates for the machines hardware?
 
will not reboot in safe mode. all updates have been
installed but i cannot get the bios to update. the MB is
a pcchips and there bios update instructions do not
work. p4 2.o gig with 512 ddr ram, maxtor 60 gig HD
geforce ti200 64M video card, creative labs sound card.
