XP wont let me synchronize Briefcase on CD cos it's read-only

On Windows XP I cant synchronize files via Briefcase to CD
because it will only look at files as read only. When I
try and change attributes it generates and error. I am
using Create (Adaptec Direct) v5 software for the CD
burning.

Briefcase and XP and Create work fine when use floppy so i
suspect its seeing the cd as a provider disk of some sort.

thanks in advance

DirectCD (from Roxio for their Easy CD Creator product), InCD (from
Ahead for their Nero product), ZipMagic (as another example) load as
installable file systems just like CDFS is an installable file system to
handle the read-mode for CD media. UDF (Universal Data Format) writers,
like DirectCD and InCD, require they be able to write to the media under
UDF mode. That means you must use CD-RW (rewritable) media. You cannot
use CD-R media. Before you can use the CD-RW media, it must be
formatted using UDF.

I'm pretty sure somewhere in the documentation for DirectCD that it
tells you that rewritable discs must be used; I remember reading about
it when I first tried DirectCD several years ago and later when I
started using InCD instead. In other words, RTFM. When reviewing
InCD's manual, it mentions what its various tray icons mean, one of
which is to indicate that the CD is *not* writable (i.e., it is
read-only even if it is a CD-R disc).

Although their article at http://snipurl.com/6inv says CD-R and CD-RW
are usable, it was my understanding that you had to use CD-RW media so
that new copies of the TOC (table of contents) were recorded within the
same session. On CD-R, the updated TOC would have to be written in a
new session.

Also, if you finalized the CD-R[W] media (i.e., closed the last session)
using CD burning software, like with Easy CD Creator or Nero, then you
chose to not allow any more writes to that media. For CD-R, it's fixed
and no more writes. For CD-RW, you'll have to reformat it to reuse it.
