XP won't let me reinstall XP

Due to several issues with a PC running XP (with service
pack 2), I'd like to reinstall XP. When I install the XP
CD and select install, I get a message that I cannot
install from this CD since it contains an older OS than
what is already installed. A later message suggests
booting from the CD to install. How do I boot from the
CD so as to reinstall?

Thanks

When you turn your computer on, you see the message telling you how to get
into your system setup (usually DEL, F1 or F2) - do that.. Change to boot
from CD. Have your XP CD in the drive, when you boot, it should boot from
your CD and tell you "Press any key to Boot from CD" - press any key and
continue.

You likely have either pre-sp1 or SP1 CD and you have installed SP2?
