XP won't install on new hard drive

I suffered the BSOD, was not able to fix HD. Bought a new Western
Digital 80g and installed. Changed the BIOS to start from XP install
CD. Start-up begins, screen says checking system configuration (or
something to that effect) and then the screen goes black. I have an
ATI video card (has cable in, VCR in, etc). Not sure what the problem
is, but.. One note, I can get into XP console on corrupt HD from CD,
and the screen does display. Any ideas as to why I am getting the
black screen?

Is the BIOS recognizing your new hard drive? Is the new drive connected as
Primary Master? Consult the info that came with the drive.
Also, with the computer turned off, ensure everything is securely seated and
correctly attached inside the computer. If you have any usb devices plugged
in make sure they are unplugged (exception being usb mouse or keyboard).

BIOS is recognizing the new drive. It is set as Primary Master. No
USB devices are attached.

Digital or analog connection on the video card? If digital switch to analog.
(The XP setup does not recognize digital connections until the setup/install
is complete - then you can switch back. That's what I had to do.)

A BSOD usually doesn't indicate a bad hard drive. The message on the BSOD
would have given you a hint as to what was wrong, and it could have been a
bad driver for something, or it could be a bad piece of hardware. If it was
bad hardware, you haven't fixed that problem, which may be why the install
isn't completing.
