XP won't boot

Today I got a BSOD, but I rebooted and everything seemed OK. Hours later, a
message from Diskkeeper popped up saying chkdsk was scheduled so it couldn't
defrag. I had not scheduled chkdsk, but I immediately rebooted and got a
Blue Screen saying there was a serious problem with windows. Error message
was STOP 0x00000024. It said I should run chkdsk /f. But now I can't even
boot into safe mode, so how can I run chkdsk??

Use the Recovery Console and run a chkdsk /p on the drive. Keep your
fingers crossed, do a prayer and hope for the best! I hate to be the
bearer of bad news but if this 0x24 error is in Ntfs.sys or to do with
NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM it can be very bad news indeed!

First question before you do anything, is there a full and complete backup
of important data? If not then do that first. Here are some options for
doing so. Do not run chkdsk on the drive if there is no backup. Backup
first.

1. Take the drive out of the computer and install it as a slave drive in
another Windows XP or 2000 computer. It should read the drive ok, so you can
copy the data.

2. Create a bootable Bart's PE disk, boot from that, then copy the data to
external USB drive or flash drive.

3. Download a bootable Linux distro called Knoppix. Create a bootable CD
from that, boot from it, and copy the data to USB drive or flash drive, or
if the computer has two CD drives, one of which is a burner, then use the
k3b burning program on the Knoppix CD to burn the data to CD.

4. Take it to a competent computer tech to backup the data.

After the data is backed up as a starting point look through the above link
and download a drive diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturer's
web site. That will create a bootable floppy or CD. Boot from that and run
the diagnostics on the drive.

Most of my important files are backed up, but there are some that are not so
I will definitely need to back them up.

The computer has RAID 0. Does that affect making a bootable disk? Also,
what is a Bart's PE disk,and where can I get it?

Sorry I don't have any experience using a Bart's PE disk with a Raid set up.
Google is a good resource. Doing a Google search for Bart PE gives this as
the first link. Good luck.
