XP won't accept my password

Brand new laptop, set up limited acct's for kids and kept
admin. acct for me. Input my password, retyped it for
accuracy in the next box, did the clue thing. After
shutting down and restart, the login will not recognize my
password as valid. In fact, it only allows part of it, not
all of the characters. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?
Ready to shoot either A) my computer B) myself, or C) a
certain wealthy man whose idea all this was (JUST KIDDING,
do not call the FBI!!!)

What do you mean "it only allows part of it"?
If you are meaning it is a long password and a short box, the password
is scrolling off.
Just type the password as normal.
