"...is not accessable. Access denied."

Hi all,

I hope this is the appropriate forum...if not, please point me in the
correct direction.

i am just a dad whose kid has done something to restrict my admin
ability to see it's folder. upon clicking the child's folders/files the msg
"...is not accessable. Access denied."

comes up. whats up with this? is is efs encrypted stuff? how can i
get around it with out the child's knowledge? i figure i could
change/remove the password but then the kid would know.

If you don't know a lot about computers it is best to take ***your***
computer to a competent tech. Tell what has happened. Tell him you want to
have full administrator rights. Tell him YOU want your son to only be able
to log on with restricted rights. Then ask him how he can set it up for you
so that the son/child/user CAN NOT change it back.

There are ways! Take control of "your" property. After all, you likely paid
for the computer and are paying for the internet service. Don't allow your
son/child/user to abuse YOU!

If the files are encrypted with EFS [XP Pro only] then you will not be able
to access them unless you know the users password. However as administrator
you can add a Recovery Agent to EFS and then as RA be able to see EFS files
on the computer. However first check the file properties to see if they are
encrypted or not as most likely you simply do not have proper permissions to
the folder/file [which is common on a user's profile under documents and
settings] though as an administrator you can always take ownership and then
grant yourself permission OR backup the folders with the built in NTbackup
and restore them to some other folder that you have permissions to and
select the advanced option not to restore NTFS permissions. The link below
explains how to take ownership and manage NTFS permissions though he may see
that you took ownership and added your account with permissions. --- Steve
