XP WILL NOT BOOT UP

I have WIN XP Home Edition that is missing a sys32 driver. When I try to
start Win XP, I get DOS screen that says "system32\drivers\nvatabus.sys is
missing or corrupt. Insert WIN XP disc and try to repair."

When I try the auto repair function it does not work and I get the same
driver error at boot up. I have tried several times.

Is there a way to bypass this driver or copy it to the boot sequence? If I
can get to at least safe mode, I should be able to get it fixed. I believe
the drivier that is missing is a Nvidia ATA bus driver and I have CD that has
the missing file.

Any help would be greatly ap[preciated

Hi Jim,

You can disable the startup service for this driver if it is running
however if it is an Nvidia driver, have you tried selecting "Enable VG
Mode" from the boot menu?

To disable the service, you need to boot from your Windows XP CD (Not
recovery CD).

When you get to the setup screen, and you have the option to "Pres
ENTER to Install Windows", "Press R to Repair Windows", Press "R".

This will tak you to the "Recovery Console". You will be asked t
select your Operating System, it will show in the top left as "1
Windows XP Home/Pro")

Press "1" then "ENTER"

You will now be asked for your "Administrator Password", usualy this i
blank, so if you are not sure if you have one or what it is, tr
pressing "ENTER" without typing anything in. You only get 3 attempts
then the PC will reboot.
If this does not work, find out what your password is, otherwise yo
may need to do a "New Folder" installation so you do not lose an
data.

Once at the recovery console, you will see "C:\WINDOWS>"
Now you can type in "listsvc" and press "ENTER" which will list runnin
services. If "nvatabus.sys" appears in the list of running services
then you can disable the service.

To disable the service, type in "disable nvatabus" and press "ENTER"

Then type "exit" and press "ENTER" and the PC will reboot. Try goin
to safe mode and see what the last driver that shows on the screen is.
If the PC still will not go into "Safe Mode" then you may want t
consider doing a "New Folder" installation.

This means you will install Windows to a new folder, but will not los
any data on your PC. If you do this, be very careful to use
different username for Windows or you may lose your "My Document's" an
"Desktop" data.

Good Luck
