XP Volume Control Mixer

My system Volume control mixer seems to have a mind of
its own, No matter how I set it on the next start up from
shut down the settings have all changed, at times it
seems random some items muted and volume levels changed
from previous. Not a serious problem, but annoying.

There are no other users on the system.
 
Do you change the volume using anything other than the
volume mixer that you are talking about, such as a volume
button on your keyboard or maybe through another
application.

If this is the case then it could be this indirect method
of adjusting the volume
