xp versus me

envelope from DELL ..

anyone suggest that I install XP? or leave well enough
alone?

install XP. ME was never meant to be a serious operating system. It was a
joke. Get rid of it asap

Almost no one is supporting ME, not even MS. XP is much better, but only
after a clen install!

Keep ME. If you have diskspace, and can partition the drive
put ME on C: first, then XP on D or E. You can let it NTFS, I
prefer Fat32 because then my ME sees XP so it's easy to do
cleanups of files that other system owns. You'll get many feeds
on this but for myself, some games that I enjoy don't work well
on XP, but Seti@home runs really well here. If I didn't have
disk space to run both, I'd stay with ME.

Do a clean install of XP and SP1 and forget you ever heard of ME.
ME was and always will be a piece of crap! What a ripoff, they put
it out while it was not finished and then immediately came out with
XP; and then dumped all support for ME. Even MS realized what a mess
it was.

Contrary to the groups comments, I had very few problems with ME. I have had
even less problems with XP. You could wait untill you have problems and then
do the XP install.

I agree. Installing an operating system is a lot of work especially
getting all those settings and configurations done. If you don't have any
problems with ME then just keep using it. Eventually, your system will get
so bloated, messed up, and so on that you will want to clean it up and
reinstall. At that point you can install XP.

Pretty much every company's policy on updates (except for Microsoft who
insists you update everytime) is "install this update only if you are
experience the specified problems". The same goes here; if it's working for
you (and you really don't want to, you keep putting it off anyway), then no
need to upgrade (for now).
