We currently have Windows 2000 running in our company and are making the
jump to Windows XP (Please DO NOT ask why because I won't be able to give
you a good answer and I am sick of the question). What I would like
answers/input on is doing an upgrade vs doing a rebuild. We have tested
both on a number of machines, with minimal issues. Neither seems to be
better then the other but, we have all been around long enough to know that
doing a rebuild is the best choice, but in a lot of cases we don't have the
time.

What do you all think?

Thanks

Do the upgrades "carefully" by which I mean do the
home-work. Also remove hardware, such as printers and
scanners before the upgrade begins, get the upgrade done and
reinstall the hardware.

Get your Windows Updates downloaded using the Windows Update
Catalog so you can do them on your LAN. You can even do XP
installs on the network.

LOL! There is absolutely no good answer for upgrading from 2K to XP.

Do the upgrades, but be prepared to do clean installs, if some of the
upgrades go south. Back up any data that you can't stand to lose,
before beginning the upgrades.

Do you mean a rebuild as in reinstall? both would take time, being
reinstalling 2000 or installing XP.
I would stay with 2000 and do clean install and offcourse apply the Windows
2000 SP4.
If you don't have time Chris, then let it stay the way it is, never!!
upgrade over the top of another OS, especially in a business environment,
I've done it before and it's not worth it.
I find Windows 2000 more stable than XP but that's only my opinion.

Good Luck

Upgrades are very likely to work well - and save a lot of time. If one
does not you can still do the clean install, the converse is not true.
