XP Updates

My PC constantly wants to install update 816093 but when it does I get the
message "This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of Microsoft
VM" and then wants to restart. How can is resolve this?

Suggest you use the Sun uninstall method or :
MSJVM Removal Tool 1.0a

Then install Sun's JRE by clicking the Download link next to
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Put a mark next to 'Accept license agreement', then download and SAVE
the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language package
When the download is finished, close the browser and any other open
programs.
Now install jre-6u1-i586-p.exe
