XP Update

Just loaded XP Pro and was trying to update it via help & support. Inital
message was that I needed to update the BITS server and this was automatic.
It then said that I needed to change the setings on some of the services,
Auto updates to start automatically, BITS manually and Event logging to auto.
ThisiI did and when I returned to update I just went through a cycle of
repetition. The BITS update has now happened 6 times (I lost count) and the
auto udpates start setting keeps changing back to manual. Does anyone know
how to sort this?

This is going to sound odd, but try updating your time via the internet.
Then try the update again. I've run into roadblocks before where XP won't
update if the date/time has not successfully synchronized.

Also, if the online updating is not working, consider downloading the
updates manually and installing them. Use the links on the update page to
locate the downloadable files.
