I need to reinstall XP (Pro). I made sure that I wrote the damn product key
down just about everywhere so I don't lose it but then I went and lost the
install CD!!

I do have an XP Trial CD-ROM. Would this take the real XP key and function
as normal or would it treat the real XP key as a trial one and still lock up
after 180 days??

Thanks

A conventional Windows XP Product Key will not work with
a trial version. You'll need to replace your lost CD.

A trial version cannot be installed using any Product Key other than
the trial Product Key that came with it. Product Keys are bound to the
specific type and language of CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or
Upgrade) with which they are purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM
Product Key won't work for any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any
version of WinXP Pro, and vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot
be used with a full version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will
not work to install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not
work with an English CD. Bottom line: Product Keys and CD types cannot
be mixed & matched.
