I have managed to get the two computers in question to see each other
without NPF installed and am able to see respective C:\ both ways.
Unfortunately I re-installed NPF following advice to another user on this NG
regarding NPF; with the advice informing to specify IP addresses and ports
to use for TCP and UDP. I cannot seem to get these to work. ports were I
think, 137-9 and 445, offhhand, but I did copy the settings to the letter.
I have NPF and NSW on the XPhome box and W2K box with no firewall software.
When I ping the W2k box(from XP box with NPF installed) with the specified
IP address it does not respond, but the other way does respond from W2k to
XP.
I tried changing from TCP/IP to NETBEUI(?sp) and this seems to have had no
effect.
I have established a good connection after following advice on here about
user accounts, shared access and guest accounts etc. This is how far I got
in getting access before realising it was the damnable firewall!
When I open the IP address of the W2k box and get a window, there is nul
contents where the entirity of the C:/ should be.
Other than getting some new firewall software where can I change any
settings?
I have installed all the IIS and suchlike options from the W2K install disk.
I have also enabled cross-logins and Client for MS networks.
Many thanks in advance for a commonly recurring problem I am sure.
