xp to mac OS X 10.3.2 printing problems

i have windows xp pro and am trying to network it with a g4 power mac with OS X 10.3.2. the network works fine, except for i can't seem to share the printer. the printer is an hp deskjet 5550 and connected to the mac. i can see the printer on the pc, so then i try to install it and it says there is improper printer drivers installed on the mac. so, i install the drivers with the have disk option. then, i try to print from the pc and it appears as though there are no problems- except that absolutely nothing printed.

i don't think it's a problem with the mac, because another guy is having the exact same problem and he tried networking with Samba Re Hat Linux, and printing worked fine- he started a discussion board over at the mac site discussing the problem http://archives.macusers.org/thread/t-1374.html

but, i want it to work with windows. anyone have any suggestions?

I read the other thread. It seems that RedHat can print to the
printer on the Mac but Windows XP can't. If you are really
interested in getting deeper into this problem, you could try
the following: get a network "sniffer" that can capture the
network traffic between the two computers. Collect the data
streams between the two combinations Mac-XP and Mac-RH and see
what the differences are. That may provide a clue as to what
Linux is doing correctly and XP is doing wrong.
