Xp to 98 network

(See 'Network XP to 98') below. I have tried everything Dr. Helmig suggested,
plus changing cables, checking out everything on the 'verify' list and my
computer still says "Network cable unplugged". So Nothing Ive tried so far
has worked. More suggestions please. Thanks

Who is Dr. Helmig? Jack and I answered you.

Have you tried any other computers with the new server? Have you run
diagnostics on the network card on the server? If you just got this server, it
sounds to me like a call to Dell would be a good place to start.
 
Sorry, Chuck, I didnt think about answering the first post. the Dr. Helmig
name came up in information that Jack gave me. It did not solve the problem.
To answer your suggestions, I did run diagnostics on the card, say it is
working. Dont have another computer to try to connect to, and no, I havent
contacted Dell, I bought the Dell server from a friend, it is 2 years old, so
dont know yet if dell will help or not.

Im wondering if I have to "turn on" the onboard network card in setup or
somewhere else, cant find it in setup. Thanks

contacted Dell, I bought the Dell server from a friend, it is 2 years old, so
dont know yet if dell will help or not.

OK, if the diagnostics say that it's working, then it probably is. If the
onboard card is what you diagnosed, then turning it on isn't an issue.

So now you have to consider the connection to the other computer. Are you using
a crossover cable, or a (hub / switch / router) and a pair of patch cables?

OK, you're getting better. Now try answering my previous post, where I
suggested some work for you to do, with something different than what you typed
an hour ago.
