XP themes

Is there a way of installing themes on XP Pro without having to use the
"MSXPplus" package. I tried to install a theme, into the relevant folder, it
gives the icons and desktop background ok, but it doesn't change settings
like the startmenu backgrounds, taskbar colour,etc. The fonts I can install
via the fonts folder installation routing, but beyond that I am stuck.
