XP Task Manager Question

When I hit ctrl-alt-del and bring up task manager, I do not see a list of
any programs that are running. When I did this in W98SE, I always saw a list
of programs. I am doing this while on the desktop screen.

What do you see instead?

Click "Applications" tab to see what programs are running. If the tabs are
missing, double-click the outer frame of the Task Manager.

Well, right now, it shows Out Look Express as the only program running (with
applications tab checked). Shouldnt there be more programs running? On 98, I
usually had several showing as running.

Windows 98 included a lot of background programs in the single Close Program view. In XP click on the Processes tab to see background programs, and Applications to see specific active applications.
