xp system hangs frequently

my xp box hangs for no reason, typically after i've NOT
used it for several hours. i'll return, and can't log
into any of the user accounts (i have 3 set up), can't
see anything- no start menu, no desktop icons, nothing.
just my desktop background image. i can't ctrl-alt-del,
can't ctrl-esc, nothing. all i can do is hard reboot the
machine and start over.

any suggestions???
 
Hi,

Check your settings here:

Right click My Computer Icon/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Expand USB
Controllers/Double Click USB Root Hub/Properties. Select Power Management
and uncheck: Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.
