XP suddenly stopped playing online audio/video

I have winxp pro and I cannot play my sirius satellite online or regular
videos like on yahoo's homepage. It has worked before and just recently it
started acting up. It happens when another (small) window opens for my
sirius program and I cannot hear sound. It looks like it plays, it starts to
buffer then says 'playing'. I'm afraid there has been a codec or a setting
in windows that stops it from playing but I have no idea what it can be.
Please help!!!
