Hi,

Windows XP will reach its three years of age next October. Kind of old for a
desktop operating system.
I would like to know what operating system is Microsoft preparing to be the
successor of XP and when will it be available ?

Thank you,

Fernando Ronci

It's code-named Longhorn, but from what I hear, it's so full of built-in
spyware that you'd be best to avoid it.

Hi,

Longhorn is the code name for the next generation of Windows, and it's not
due out for quite some time. Early details can be found here:

Since you're an MS-MVP, would you be able to comment on the privacy issues
rumored to be in Longhorn? Specifically, Palladium?

If I were the admin of this newsgroup, I wouldn't only ban your IP address,
I'd ban your whole damn ISP. People like you are just not worth the time or
energy.

Ban me for being concerned about protecting my privacy? Let me guess,
you're one of the people who advocates the Patriot Act, condones the actions
of the RIAA, and believes every single thing that Bush tells you...right?

See http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/longhorn.htm

Present guesses (and they are guesses) is that in maybe 2006, with an
interim 'XP Reloaded' around the end of this year, consisting of XP with
the SP2 that is in Beta plus probably some try out auxiliary matters -
rather like Windows 98 SE was

All Rick or I could say about Longhorn, other than to refer you to the
articles in the site mentioned, is "Mooooo"

Nah, I just can't stand people who spew BS. You got nothing better to do
than spew. Even more sad is the effort you go through to come here and talk
trash. Go see a shrink and get help.

Read some of the links that have been posted in this thread. They all
describe an operating system that works with the hardware to determine which
hardware / software combinations are allowed. Now I don't know about sheep
like you, but I would much rather prefer my computer to do what I tell it
and not vice-versa. "I" will decide what hardware and software is allowed
to run...not the O/S.

The next major version of Windows is code-named Longhorn, and is
currently in development.

Nobody knows what its name will be when it's released, but it
almost certainly won't be "Longhorn."

Nobody knows when it will be released either, but current
estimates are that it will probably be around 2006.

Good then go get Linux, get off this newsgroup and remember nobody really
cares. There are millions of people running Windows and obviously more
getting it everyt single day and all are content. If you can't figure that
out, that's your problem/mental block. Not my problem and nobody needs to
hear your trash.

I'm not bitching about any current versions of Windows, I'm bitching about
Longhorn. Longhorn could theoretically invade people's privacy like there's
no tomorrow, and it's MS whores such as yourself that allow this to happen.

I've got to ask - why would this worry you? Is there a feature or something
you need in the OS that's not there? I'd be *perfectly* happy if MS waited
on Longhorn. Get it solid, streamline the code - and do the same, in the
meantime, on XP.

It would also make upgrading far easier when it did come out, as the chance
of someone running (say) Win98 or WinME in 2007 would be much smaller.
Support, software migration, etc. would be easier on both sides.

I agree on that. I feel that XP is the best of the Windows operating
systems, and if MS devoted more of their time to it, XP could get even
better. The only major feature I can see about Longhorn is security...but
that's something even a slightly computer-literate user can take care of on
their own.

Hi,
Me again.
How may I get an alfa (or beta) version of Longhorn ? I visited
http://msdn.microsoft.com but wasn't able to find a way to request a
preview version of Longhorn.

Thank you,

Aren't they planning a stopgap called "XP Reloaded" that would be released
before Longhorn? I've heard about this at various places, but haven't heard
much information about it. Don't know if it was a hoax or what, haven't
really been interested enough to do any reading on it =)

It's not a hoax. XP reloaded will contain the soon to be released Service
Pack 2 updates.
