XP stopping hard drive move

M

microsoft

I would like to move my XP home from my laptop to a laptop that is presently
running Win 2000. When I do this the 2000 runs fine in the Xp computer but
the XP harddrive will not load in the 2000 computer.
Since the newer computer needs to go back for warrantee repairs I need to do
this because all my business stuff is on the XP hard drive. Exchanging the
hard drives will allow me to continue working.

You would need to do an "Upgrade setup' or "repair' of the xp system to get it to run on the changed hardware.

..If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)

"Hard drive will not load" needs further explanation- Is it accessible
though XP does not boot? Any messages relating to an error, no system disk
or OS found?

Usual result of installing a HD with XP from one computer to another is a
message stating that the hardware has changed significantly and reactivation
necessary within three days.
