Xp Start Up Problem

Help please, I was getting an error message telling me NTLDR was missing,
ctrl alt del restart.
I used my ASR disk to boot up and then copied NTDetect.com NTLDR and
boot.ini into the root of my c: drive. None of these files where present on
my PC except NTLDR in the 1386 folder.
I didn't change or delete any files and the only updates done where the
windows defender definitions and KB922616.

1/ Have I put the My questions are NTDetect.com NTLDR and boot.ini
in the right place ? PC boots up normally now

2/ Is this indicative of a larger problem with either my disk or installation

Many thanks in advance

Yes, you put the boot files in the right place - on the root of the C:
drive. It would be a good idea to run a drive diagnostic. Download a
diagnostic utility from the hard drive mftr.'s website. You will make
either a bootable cd or floppy with the file you downloaded. Boot with this
media (you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS) and do a thorough
test of the hard drive. If the drive fails any physical tests, replace it.
