XP Start up errors

george

get error message on start up "windows cannot find
iexpIore.exe. make sure you typed the name correctly and
try again. to search for a file, click the start button
and then click send." I get 5 of these messages at start
up if I click OK on each message the start up continues
as normal and computer comes up fine. This started when
I first loaded norton anti-virus and ran a system scan
about 3 months ago. I suspect norton identified a
necessary file as a bad file and I inadvertantly deleted
it when I cleaned up after the scan. does anyone know
how to clear this up?

Sure do,your problem is in the msconfig utility(it points
programs to run at start-up)Norton probably removed the
infection and the utility still has the listings for
it,and cannot find the file for it,because Norton 86'ed it
(86 = got rid of)To fix this you can got to start > run
run > type in msconfig > start-up tab > uncheck the
boxes for the problem files,if you cannot find the
items,then uncheck everything > apply > OK > restart >
check the utility box that comes up don't show again > OK
go into your Norton > options set it to come on at
start up > do this for everything that you want to come
on at start-up(i.e.:instant messengers, programs you want
to run everytime it starts),go into the options for them
and turn them on(I only have my antivirus and Zone Alarm
firewall come on at start-up,done this after reading a
post from ALLMOST READY TO RETIRE it boots much faster
and programs open faster too.) Give that a try,if you
don't like it you can always go back and recheck
everything. If you would like to remove the listings for
the unchecked items go to this site line 148 has the tool
to remove the listings that are unchecked, download the
tool and run it.
