xp stalls during formatting

trying to install xp after formatting,windows stes up says
it must format the hard drive ,I press enter ,it
starts...goes to 20% right away
then ..............nothing...sat for 24 hours , nothing
still 20% can some one help?? thanks amxkiss
 
Do you have an old win98 or windowsme bootable floppy? If
you do try this, boot from the disk, run fdisk and go
through the parameters to create a dos partition, and then
try and format it. See if it hangs up during the format
with Fat32 filesystem as well, if it does, your harddrive
is probably going bad. If not then I'm not sure what it
could be. Good luck.
