XP SP3 ??

Hello,

I went online to purchase XP Home OEM. There are two versions, one with SP2
and one with SP2. $20 difference. Can SP3 be downloaded? Is SP3 good and
necessary?

Thanks

SP3 is good. And while I wouldn't call it a necessity just yet, your machine
will not be updated in the future without it.

How to obtain the latest Windows XP service pack:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

Before you install, turn off your anti-virus and any anti-spyware programs
such as Windows Defender. If you use a third party firewall, disable it and
turn on the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel for the installation. Once
SP3 is in and working, you can enable the third party firewall and turn of
the Windows Firewall. Do not keep both running.

Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3:

Yes it can be downloaded, and if you have a version of XP that doesn't have
it, you should do so, and burn it to CD or slipstream your existing CD.

It is fine, and soon, will be necessary to get further updates.

For the most part, SP3 is a roll-up of the 100 or so post-SP2 updates.

Hello Bruce, is SP3 an upgrade from SP2? Is it another patch? Should I get
it now too? Thanks. Adela

I would get it. It is about 95% an SP2 roll-up with a few benefits. But even
if you don't notice anything now, you will need it to get updates in the
future.

Be sure to read the pre-install information.

SP3 requires that you have installed either SP1 or SP2 or it will not allow
you to install it. Make sure that the OEM disk includes at least SP1 at a
minimum. Short of that you will need to download and install either SP1 or
SP2 before you will be allowed to install SP3.
