XP SP3 won't install

I've tried to install XP SP3 several times. Each time it says the install
was interrupted and is resetting to previous settings. I've turned off my
screen saver, but didn't help. About the only thing I can think is running
is a wallpaper changer, and my antivirus - McAfee.

Any suggestions?

The directions suggest you turn off all AV and Firewall.
Also you should download the service pack and run it, rather than use
windows update (if you are).

Install it in Safe Mode.

Disable McAfee. It is the most likely reason that something is stopping
the installation.
I did not like stopping my AV; therefore, I bought the update CD. The CD is
a complete package; consequently, I could remove the computer from the
network and disable both the firewall and the AV without risking infection.
There are several additional situations which could cause more bad things to
happen. I downloaded the instruction article and the various articles which
describe how to recover from conditions that may exist. The installations
on my computers proceeded without a hitch; it took about 30 minutes to
install SP3.

Turn off any way to go online and turn off the firewall and virus scanner;
turn off all connected hardware devices like printer and scanner. Try again.
