XP SP3 now won't go into hibernate....?

I got a virus. A bad one. Couldn't eradicate it so I took the drastic
measure of reformating and reinstalling my HP Pavilion's Operating System,
XP Home. I subsequently downloaded all the up dates. All 80 of them and
applied the patches to the SP3 level. Windows is STILL downloading updates.

Anyway, here's my currently problem....

WINDOWS XP SP3 WON'T GO INTO HIBERNATE. I starts, succeeds, and then reboots
back out of hibernate. Has anyone any ideas? I'll really appreciate it. You
guys are always so helpful!

Windows XP SP3 does not exist.

Microsoft haven't released XP SP3!!!!

Well I got it ahead of everyone else. I have connections!

I notice nobody's bothered with the actual problem. They're just concerned
about the typo! Shessssh!

If you can get it into safe mode look for a restore point to try. If it
won't boot there isn't much you can do but start over again.

U G,
I have the same problem with Hibernate. It gets to the Power Off (PC clicks)
then immediately Powers Up again. Shutdown (i.e."Turn Off") does a full Power
Off correctly.
I have so much software running on my PC and I can't determine exactly when
this started to occur so I've learned to accept the situation and hope that a
fix from Microsoft will soon evolve. I would hate to have to rebuild my
system.
One thing I do know however is that the problem has been occuring for at
least 2 months.
Hope we find a fix,
