XP SP2 Shut Down Problem

I just upgraded my notebook with AMD 64 Bit processor from Window XP Home to
Windows Pro SP2. Now, the notebook computer does not shut down. I have to
take the batteries off to force it to shut down. Because I upgraded to XP Pro
SP2, I cannot go back to my XP Home which worked fine.

I am wondering if this is common and what may be causing it. It would seem
to be a driver problem.
