XP SP2 now word shuts down computer

Your description is a bit vague. What do you mean specifically by "the
whole system shuts down"?

Without knowing more try uninstalling, then reinstalling the programs.

I must restart by hitting power button. So far only happens with word

Ok but you still haven't given much information. Any error messages?
Has it always done this? If not, when did it start and what changes did
you make right before this started? What is the malware status of the
computer? Have you done a thorough scan in safe mode with a current AV
product with up to date definitions and up to date spyware programs?

What is the OS? Any service packs? Is it OEM or retail or warez?
