XP SP2 Installation

Is it possible to wipe out just the Windows directory and reinstall XP
SP2 back on the hard drive with out wiping out the other programs on
the C drive.
I have tried the repair process several times and it isn't working for
me. If I have to as a last resort, I can wipe the hard drive out or
partition it to install the XP Program. The only other solution I can
see is to delete all the programs that I have loaded and defrag,
scandisk and then reload from the beginning. However, I will still
have a bad registry. I am trying for a clean install without removing
the other programs. There are to many problems to list here.

during application install a number of files are written to the windows
folder (and sub folders).
deleting the Windows folder will require you to reinstall applictions as
well as windows

What problem(s) are you having with a 'Repair' install of XP? You can't
delete just the Windows folder - that will cause all kinds of problems
resulting in a re-install of Windows. Have you had a look at the following
