XP SP2, but left uninstall directories for previous updates

D

Denny D.

I installed XP SP2 and in the Add/Remove Programs area in Control
Panel, all previous entries to allow me to uninstalll critical
updates from over the years are gone, replaced by just one entry for
XP SP2 itself

But in Windows Directory , there are 43 Folders starting with
$NTUninstall****** for all previous patches.

Can these folders be deleted, since the related entries in Add/ Remove
in Control Panel were removed by SP2 anyways?

Hmmm...I was wondering that myself.
If you're feeling adventurous you can try MOVING them to a temp directory
and working with your system for a few days. I really don't think they're
needed. I'd do it myself but I recently did a FULL reload since I had a
couple of other major driver updates that I needed to do including SP2.
If you do it please post back with your results.

I've transferred all those folders in one I've created to my "D" drive. I've
partitioned my 60 GB harddrive 5 gb - "C" for windows only and the rest -
"D" for apps and everything else including those uninstall folders
"EVERYTHING WORKS OK" For the record I've downloaded SP2 IT network version
and burnt it onto a cd for future formatting.

I think the IT version is better to have on a cd than downloading it on
windows update.

using winxp pro :)

Also... I've done the same thing when SP1 when it first came out. Meaning...
I've downloaded the IT network version and burnt that also on CD!

I'll try it. I can't see any need for these since the uninstall
options for these in Add/Remove are no longer there.
