XP SP2 + Auto Update

Just spent hours combing through Microsoft website,
trying to find out if and when Service Pack 2 is ever
coming down. Nowhere was I able to find information about
WHEN SP2 will be downloaded. Nowhere (that I could find)
was I given the option to download and install it myself.

Settings: Auto Update always on -- install at my option.

Microsoft's Update page tells me "no crucial updates
needed"; install history says SP 1 only is installed.

Microsoft analysis of my computer also reported that
my 'firewall is in place' [but] if I have dialup AOL
(which I do), firewall is not in place and to contact AOL.

Is it any wonder consumers tear their hair out?

Read Article in paper this morning saying that they would release SP2
professional Aug 25th. Nothing about SP2 for Home. Do not know if the
same package covers both.

It's been widely reported in the mainstream media - to say nothing of the
technology media - that SP 2 is becoming available gradually over time.

Will something terrible happen if you don't get SP 2 *right now*?

AOL uses proprietary software. Complain to them.

Clicking on this link will download the full 275 MB file that is suitable
for all versions of XP regardless of what level they have been patched to.

Here is a link to the MS webpage for XPSP2,
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/winxpsp2.mspx
, everything you might want to know about SP2 is posted there.

With regards to WU it was due to be available today last I heard, for a
reasonably upto date version of XPHome expect an 80 MB download.

Hope this helps.
