I lately bought another (legal) copy of XP SP2 which includes (online) auto-update when installing the OS. This is certainly a thoughtful feature but it disturbs a bit when auto updated installation screens (while in dos mode) suddenly are displayed in *wide* format when u got a 4:3 monitor - all text clipped off to the right hand side. Further, it disturbs when the OS installation suddenly asks for a driver CD which never has been asked before.

MS can better than that..I can't say I like this box of chocolate

Who did you buy the copy of XP SP2 from?

This version sound like it may be a tweaked OEM version of XP. Since the
generic OEM version and the retail version do not, normally, have such an
automatic update feature, We normally have to access Windows Update once the
"base" install is completed.

.....

Are u talking about the newer MS (OEM) XP *SP2* CD? - or the older SP1 CD?
The older XP (SP1) CD is exactly what u are talking about but the SP2 CD installs differently.
